Rev. Michael Dunlap

Rev. Michael Dunlap

SENIOR PASTOR

"Greetings in the Name of Jesus Christ:

My name is Michael Dunlap, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as pastor of Avondale UMC. I grew up on a farm just outside of St. Joseph, graduated with a B.S. in Agricultural Business from Northwest Missouri State University, and a Masters of Divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology.

For most of my pastoral career, I have served the greater Kansas City and St. Joseph areas. I have also served as a hospice chaplain. For me, there is nothing more enjoyable than spending a summer night watching Royals Baseball! I love spicy food, souped-up sports cars, and traveling.

Whether you are a lifelong member of Avondale or a prospective member, I look forward to getting to know you more. You will find members of Avondale actively serving Christ on our campus, in our neighborhoods, and around the world. We want you to join with us in sharing God’s love!

See You Sunday,
Pastor Michael"

DIRECTOR OF CONGREGATIONAL CARE MINISTY

"As the Director of Congregational Care Ministry, it is my responsibility to establish, organize, educate, and communicate with the care team to visit shut-ins, nursing homes, assisted living members, and any member of AUMC as needed. It is my responsibility to lead a Connectional Ministry Team to provide support and connection to our members, visitors, and new members. Also, I support and assist the senior pastor, make hospital calls, and support familiar during illnesses, life transitions, death, weddings, and the birth of babies. I publish the Community of Caring message on email each Friday. As the CCM Director, I organize small groups such as Meet and Greeter, Welcoming, Renewed Hope, and future small groups as need arises. My goal is to show God’s love to others, provide comfort and support, deepen our faith in God, and bring a smile or laugh to those in need. "

Church Technology & Operations Manager

"I joined the AUMC staff in September 2019 following my retirement from a 30-year career with IRS. I have been in ministry bi-vocationally with several Kansas City area churches throughout my IRS Career, and I am excited to finally have the opportunity to work exclusively for AUMC. I work mostly behind the scenes, with various communication, coordination, and administrative tasks that help AUMC stay connected online and running smoothly. Let me know if I can help you with information about AUMC, or if I can help you ‘plug-in’ to the mission and activities at AUMC."

My husband Jared and I recently moved to Missouri, and I have three grown children. I love to spend time with family, traveling and crafting."

NURSERY ATTENDANT

"The children often enjoy reading, playing on the sensory table, pretending in the kitchen area, playing with baby dolls, and age-appropriate art activities. As staff, we help the children develop skills such as leading prayer before snack, manners, and appropriate behavior in the Sanctuary. Each child chooses their own job each week. Some favorite jobs include "snack helper" and "line leader". We strive to create a safe and fun environment that is child-centered and child-led."

NURSERY ATTENDANT

"Over the past 6 years I have taught children in Pre-School to 5th grade. I have also worked many years with younger children. I enjoy helping a child explore the world around them and learn new things each day! Working in the nursery at Avondale is a great opportunity to help young children learn and grow!"
